Scaffold / Ladder Safety
Overview:
The OSHA standard sets performance-based criteria to protect employees from scaffold-related hazards such as falls, falling objects, structural instability, electrocution, or overloading. It also addresses training and various types of scaffolds, as well as falling object protection, ladders, weather conditions, aerial lifts, stilts, and other matters that are not covered in OSHA's previous scaffolding standards. In addition, it allows employers more flexibility when using protective systems for workers on scaffolding.
Course Objectives: Upon completion of this training the student will be familiar with:
- The nature of any electrical hazards, fall hazards and falling object hazards in the work area.
- The correct procedures for dealing with electrical hazards.
- The correct procedures for dealing erecting, maintaining, and disassembling the fall protection systems being used.
- The correct procedures for dealing with falling object protection systems being used.
- The proper use of the scaffold, and the proper handling of materials on the scaffold.
- The maximum intended load and the load-carrying capacities of the scaffolds used.
- Any other pertinent requirements of this 29 CFR 1926 subpart.
Written Exam: Written and hands on competency will be evaluated at the end of each course. SMS Training requires a minimum score of 70%. Incorrectly answered questions will be reviewed with student to ensure understanding before completion of course.
Retraining: Employer specific.
